WHAT IS RFID?

RFID is a technology that uses radio signals for contactless reading of data from RFID tags attached to objects (using a reader).

An RFID system consists of a data storage device (RFID transponder or tag), which comprises an IC and an antenna fitted in a module, and a RFID reader/writer, which comprises an antenna and a decoder.

The tags or transponders can be made extremely small and are used to identify goods or objects.

An applicator machine developed by Beta LAYOUT and funded by the "Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft" is used to mill a slot in the PCB, and the RFID chip is inserted in this slot (Patent US 8459563 B2; EU, JP: pending).

MAGICSTRAP® devices from Murata are especially suitable for this purpose.

The chip is encapsulated in epoxy resin, making it a fixed and virtually indestructible part of the PCB.

ANTENNA DESIGN FOR EMBEDDED CHIPS

The main benefit of MAGIC-PCB® is that the stored data can be read and written even without an antenna.


Wide ranges of up to 5 m can be achieved by integrating an antenna in your layout. You can download the corresponding layout designs here at no charge and for free usage.

Please note the following requirements for this:
1) Minimum size of the circuit board: 10 cm x 4 cm
2) The Magicstrap must be placed in the centre of the PCB (antenna)
3) Approximate range with a reader capacitor of 4W when a long range antenna @915MHz is used
